The first laptop to use Toshiba's SpursEngine multimedia co-processor will be available soon. The SpursEngine is derived from the Cell chip that runs the PlayStation 3, which makes it suitable for handling data-heavy multimedia tasks that the PC's processor ordinarily can't handle. One such feature is face navigation. Faces that appear in video are recognized and displayed as thumbnails to create a visual index of the video. The laptop also has hand gesture control. When enabled, the camera above the display monitors the user's hands and--through gestures--the PC can be controlled.
