The Top 5 Best (Worst?) of Microsoft Songsmith

Yesterday, I made the bold claim of calling Microsoft’s new Songsmith software “silly and useless.” Well today, I’d like to officially retract that statement (or at least the latter half of it). It seems that the good people of the YouTube community have been hard at work, making proverbial lemonade of Microsoft’s latest offering. I now present to you The Top 5 Best (Worst?) of Microsoft Songsmith:

5) Metallica – Battery

Microsoft apparently got the memo that Lars needed “more cowbell.” I still think this is better than St. Anger.

4) Beastie Boys – Intergalactic

Songsmith doesn’t “let the beat… DROP” but it does seem to think that a robot voice goes hand in hand with The Twist. I regretfully concur.

3) Roxanne – The Police

I think it’s obvious that Sting should trade in his bass for some steel drums. The key change about two minutes in is absolute sonic perfection.

2) Van Halen – Runnin’ With The Devil

Even though the chorus is mysteriously absent, Songsmith more than compensates with cool jazz. David Lee Roth is a ridiculous human being.

1) Survivor – Eye of The Tiger

Hey, that sounds familiar... oh yeah, it’s the one from the Songsmith commercial! Mr. T (aka Clubber Lang) wouldn’t have seemed quite so formidable if they had used this rendition in that Rocky III intro montage. Here’s hoping they start playing this at ball games.
