Chocolatier: Decadence by Design Simulation Game Stirs Up New Treats

Chocolatier: Decadence by Design ($20, one-hour trial) is a charming casual/simulation game, in which you as the chocolatier build up your chocolate empire from scratch. Beginning in Zurich just after the end of World War II, you'll travel the world collecting ingredients, making new forms of chocolate, and playing arcade-style minigames to increase production.

In this third installment of the franchise, part of your goal is to assist Alex--who fans may recognize as the main character from Chocolatier 2: Secret Ingredients--in finding her husband, Sean, who's been missing since the war ended. This backstory is referred to several times as you meet sales thresholds.

The sim elements come into play with buying the many confectionary ingredients, selling the completed chocolate product, and so on. You can also design and name your own recipes, a first for the series. The casual game elements come into play with the usual minigame you have to play in order to increase factory production. This game involves firing ingredients into slots on the spinning factory contraption. As you fill up the contraption, the chocolate bar is made.

Chocolatier: Decadence by Design is all fast paced, thoughtful fun. The period setting adds a lot to the experience.

Note: The trial version of Chocolatier: Decadence by Design allows for 60 minutes of play. The full version costs $20 for unlimited play. You can get a half-off discount by joining PlayFirst's monthly PlayPass program.
