With a 2.7-inch tilt-and-swivel LCD screen, the Nikon D5000 digital SLR camera strikes a great balance between price and features. While its automatic modes don't always result in great photos, the manual settings provide much greater control of focus and exposure, and consequently produce considerably better images.
