Wimax, touch-screen technology, netbooks, and smartphones are just a taste of some of the gear getting all the attention at Asia's largest tech confab Computex this week in Taipei. Big names such as NVIDIA, Acer, AMD, Intel, and 1700 other exhibitors are showing their gear to Asia's tech elite. During day one of the conference, that runs from June 2 to 6, Acer is showed off a Netbook running the Android OS, Intel is showing off low-powered chips designed to drive super sleek notebooks, and a host of firms are pushing non-PC products such as ARC International and its "media phones."

Computex is Asia's premier tech tradeshow and is regarded as the second largest technology trade show in the world, CeBIT in Germany is larger. This year is supposed to be a tad subdued thanks to a global economic slump and fears surrounding the H1N1 virus (or swine flu). Nevertheless, 100,000 attendees are expected to browse 4600 booths in the mammoth Taipei World Trade Center.
