I Can See for Miles
Dump unneeded elements from the Outlook Express 5 window to get more room for e-mail.
Outlook Express's display can get pretty cluttered, decreasing the amount of room you have to view and manage your messages. But it's easy to free up some on-screen real estate by eliminating unnecessary extras.
Click View, Layout and then remove the check mark from the box next to "Show preview pane." If you don't use your Address Book very often, uncheck the box in front of Contacts under Basic. You'll still be able to access your address book from the toolbar, and you'll gain lots of viewing area.
Other elements you may or may not need include the Folder bar (which uses a lot of space to tell you what folder you're in), the Outlook bar, the Status bar, and the Views bar. You can see how much space you save by unchecking one and clicking the Apply button. Uncheck any toolbars that you don't use regularly.
You'll probably want to keep the main toolbar, but you can make it less obstructive. To shrink the toolbar, click the Customize Toolbar button, and then select Small Icons in the Icon Options drop-down menu and No text labels in the Text Options drop-down menu.
