Mark/Space on Friday announced the release of The Missing Link for Pre, software that helps new Palm Pre smartphone owners synchronize data with their Macs. The software is available as a free 1.0 beta version.

The Pre is Palm's newest smartphone, the first to be developed using a new operating system called WebOS. It was created with the help of Jon Rubenstein, former senior vice president of Apple's iPod division. Rubenstein recently took over the reins of Palm from outgoing CEO Ed Colligan.

The Missing Sync for Palm Pre synchronizes contacts with Address Book and Entourage and syncs calendars with iCal, automatically and wirelessly over Wi-Fi using "Proximity Sync" technology.

The software also transfers and syncs music from itunes, photos with iPhoto, ringtones, video, documents and other data using a USB cable. Safari bookmarks can be synchronized on the Pre's browser. You can customize the configuration to sync only that data you want.

Mark/Space noted that a Windows version is also in development.

When the final version is released, Mark/Space will sell The Missing Sync for Pre for $40. Users of other Mark/Space products can "crossgrade" for $30.

System requirements call for Mac OS X 10.5.6 or later, iTunes 7.4 or later, iPhone 5.0 or later, and a Palm Pre running ROM 1.0.2 or later.
