LaCie has introduced the Rugged HD, a hard disk drive operating as a "High-Definition Multimedia Player." It's priced at $350.

The LaCinema Rugged HD sports a USB 2.0 interface for transferring HD media content from a Mac or PC and also features a High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) jack to connect to a television or home entertainment system.

The LaCinema Rugged HD supports H.264, MKV, WMV9 and MPEG-4 video formats, and comes in a case modeled after LaCie's Rugged Hard Disk, designed by Neil Poulton. Black in color, it features a scratch-resistant aluminum shell, internal shock absorbers and shock-resistant rubber bumper. A remote control is also included.

The Rugged HD joins the original Rugged, which is available in other capacities.
