The Best Tech Deals of the Week

A budget digital camera, a Slacker Internet radio, and the Xbox 360 Elite are all great deals this week.

Asus Eee PC 900-BK039X Netbook

The Asus Eee PC 900-BK039X, which is on sale at Buy.com for $210, will keep you connected and is easy to carry around. Since this little netbook weighs just 2.2 pounds, it can slip into your bag or your (very large) pocket. It comes equipped with a 16GB solid-state drive, 1GB of RAM, an 8.9-inch display with 1024-by-600-pixel resolution, and Windows XP Home. It also has a built-in Webcam, so if you want to make phone calls without carrying another device, you can use Skype on it.

Nikon Coolpix L11 Digital Camera

For the casual camera user who's happy with basic picture-taking, the Nikon Coolpix L11 6.0-megapixel digital camera is now available from online retailers for $90 new or $80 refurbished. That's much less than the $150 list price for this camera, which features a 2.4-inch LCD screen and face recognition. This model also runs on AA batteries, so no need to worry about recharging. Yes, your friends may mock you at first when you mention that last item as a highlight--but just wait until you’re all traipsing through the rainforests of Bali and their cameras run out of power, and the local vendors sell only AAs.

Slacker 8GB Wi-Fi Portable Radio

Ever wish you could have new music hand-selected and shuffled for you--on a portable MP3 player? Welcome to the life of a Slacker. The Slacker 8GB Wi-Fi Radio Player, on sale at Buy.com for $70 with free shipping, is an Internet-radio MP3 player that connects to the online Slacker music service, where you can create custom radio stations based on your favorite songs and artists. Your custom stations then download to your Slacker MP3 player, so you can carry a bevy of new and exciting tunes around with you at all times. The Slacker 8GB Wi-Fi Radio Player can hold up to 40 custom stations at a time, has a 4-inch, 480 by 272 LCD screen, and supports the MP3 and WMA audio formats (if you’re a Windows user, you can also transfer up to 4GB of your own music).

Nokia N85 Unlocked Smartphone

If you’re in the market for a sleek new smartphone with a decent camera, look no further: The Nokia N85 unlocked smartphone is on sale at Dell.com. This phone usually sells for $430, but right now you can get it for $274 (after a $50 mail-in rebate, and when you use coupon code VBGH?K188CBWMC). The N85, which runs the Symbian OS, has a unique dual-slider design, wireless capabilities, and a 5.0-megapixel digital camera. With dedicated media-playback buttons, the N85 also acts as a decent MP3 player.

Microsoft Xbox 360 Elite

So far we've covered all things practical. So how about something not, um, quite as productivity-oriented--something like the Xbox 360 Elite. A refurbished version is available for $230 at Geeks.com. It comes in limited-edition black with a 120GB removable hard drive. The Xbox 360 can play games, of course, but it also can stream music and pictures, play DVDs, and connect you to the Xbox Live online gaming community. The Xbox 360 Elite has an HDMI-out, too, which makes it perfect for pairing with an HDTV. It comes with one controller and one headset, but supports up to four controllers and headsets.
