Epson Announces New 'micro-business' Scanner

Epson this week released information about its upcoming Perfection V500 office scanner for home office, casual users and "micro-business" owners. The $350 scanner will be released in September.

The scanner features up to 6400 dpi resolution; a transparency unit for slide and film input; a 30-page automatic document feeder; and a USB 2.0 connection. The device utilizes an LED-based light source in its scanning mechanism, which Epson claims uses less power and works without requiring a warmup time.

Included is a software package that includes Epson Scan; Adobe PhotoShop Elements; the one-touch Event Manager for easy scanning to PDF or email; and ABBYY Fine Reader Sprint Plus OCR, which helps make editable documents out of scanned texts.

The scanner is compatible with Mac OS X 10.3.9 and later. Software requirements call for a G3/400 or better with 128MB RAM and 200MB hard disk space.
