While not new to version 8.0 of WinZip, the compression software's integrated virus scanning abilities can come in handy. If you have an antivirus application on your PC, WinZip can scan compressed files before any viruses within them get a chance to infect your system.
The first time you use this feature, you'll need to let WinZip know where your virus scanner is. First, make sure you're using WinZip's Classic mode: If the first window you see when you start WinZip is titled "WinZip Wizard," click the button labeled WinZip Classic to switch to Classic mode. Next, click Actions, Virus Scan, and then click Yes when WinZip asks if you'd like to configure it to use your virus scanner. In the Configuration dialog box that opens, click the browse button next to "Optional virus scanner Scan program," and navigate to the executable file of your antivirus application.
After you've set up your virus scanner, WinZip will automatically scan the files in a zipped archive when you select Actions, Virus Scan or type Ctrl-S. If no alerts or messages pop up, the files are clean.
