Super Get Info Axed, Mailsmith Becomes Freeware

Bare Bones Software on Tuesday announced the discontinuation of its Super Get Info utility and noted that Mailsmith, its e-mail client, has become freeware, with a new firm supporting the software.

Created as an alternative to the "Get Info" command in Mac OS X, Super Get Info provides additional information about files and folders. Super Get Info 1.3.1 is the final release, and Bare Bones is no longer offering new licenses for purchase.

"... we believe the Finder's interface has now advanced to the point that it's a good time for Super Get Info to sail beyond the sunset," said Rich Siegel, Bare Bones' founder and CEO.

Mailsmith, an e-mail client for Mac OS X, combined support for POP/SMTP servers with filtering, automation and text manipulation capabilities inherited from BBEDit, Bare Bones' flagship text editor.

Stickshift Software, Mailsmith's new owner, is owned by Bare Bones founder Rich Siegel as well. "Since I'm in the unique position of being able to support it for others who also use and rely on Mailsmith, I have created a new company whose sole purpose is to provide a home for Mailsmith, while allowing me to focus on my work at Bare Bones Software, which remains my first and highest priority," said Siegel.
