PC World Podcast 43: Gmail Fail, Pricey Netbooks, Game-Changing Camera

PC World Staff

This week on the PC World Podcast, editors Tim Moynihan, Robert Strohmeyer, Darren Gladstone, and Mark Sullivan discuss some of the biggest tech happenings of the week.

You can download the podcast here.

Google's Gmail service was down for 100 minutes earlier this week, sending tens of millions of users into various states of panic. That is, if those users checked their account on Gmail's Web-based inbox; the POP and IMAP services for the popular e-mail service were able to weather the storm without a problem. Listen in to see whether the gang witnessed any problems, and whether the outage spells newfound doubt for cloud computing.

Remember when netbooks were cheap? That seems to be changing. Darren Gladstone discusses a couple of new $800-range netbooks from Nokia and Viliv, both of which can use cellular networks for connectivity. Plus, Darren dives in to whether the "netbook" nomenclature actually means anything anymore.

And finally, Panasonic announced its third entry into the growing Micro Four-Thirds System camera line, and it's the slimmest interchangeable-lens camera we've seen yet. But is it enough to sway would-be DSLR buyers? Learn about the just-announced Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1, and find out whether we think it will "change the game."
