Bottom Line
Gamers who cannot afford a GeForce2 Ultra board will find that the ELSA Gladiac GeForce2 GTS has the speed they need to hit respectable frame rates anywhere below 1600-by-1200-pixel resolution in 32-bit color.
ELSA Gladiac GeForce2 GTS
WHAT'S HOT: Fitted with fast DDR memory and NVidia's GeForce2 GTS chip, the Gladiac GeForce2 GTS shows off raw gaming speed. The Gladiac reached a screaming 93 frames per second in MDK2 at 1024-by-768-pixel resolution in 32-bit color. And it scored 33 and 36 fps in MDK2 and Quake III, respectively, at 1600-by-1200-pixel resolution in 32-bit color.
WHAT'S NOT: We noted some lackluster image quality, especially in TrueSpace, where moving and rotating objects flickered and distorted. Images in Quake III and Unreal Tournament also tended to lose detail in the shadows. Like many of the boards we tested, the Gladiac was unable to complete our Test Drive 6 and Unreal Tournament tests at 1600-by-1200-pixel resolution in 32-bit color.
WHAT ELSE: You can select up to three games from Shop ELSA for $20.
BEST USE: Gamers who can't afford a GeForce2 Ultra board will find that the ELSA Gladiac GeForce2 GTS has the speed they need to hit respectable frame rates anywhere below 1600-by-1200-pixel resolution in 32-bit color.
