Look for an upgrade of Sun Microsystems' StarOffice this summer. The software suite, Sun's alternative to Microsoft Office, is free and supports Windows 9x and 2000, OS/2, Linux, and Sun's Solaris Operating Environment (both SPARC and Intel platforms). StarOffice has modules for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, drawing, graphics, scheduling, database functions, e-mail, and more. The new version, 5.2, is expected to have better file-format compatibility with Microsoft applications, among other improvements.
