Motorola will sell an international version of its Android-based smartphone, dubbed the Milestone, in Germany, Italy and Argentina.

Motorola did not disclose what markets it will target beyond those three countries with the phone, launched as the Droid in the U.S. last week.

The Milestone has been equipped with support for HSPA (High-Speed Packet Access) rather than the Droid's EV-DO Rev A, which also opens the door for a wider roll-out in the U.S. The Milestone also has a test version of Motorola's Motonav application for navigation instead of Google's Maps Navigation application. The memory card is 8GB instead of 16GB, according to Motorola in Germany.

Much of the rest of the spec sheet is inherited from the Droid, including a 3.7-inch touchscreen, a 5-megapixel camera, a QWERTY keyboard that slides out from beneath the screen and version 2.0 of Android.

Motorola did not say when the Milestone will ship in the three non-U.S. markets. In Germany the phone will be available via Vodafone, O2 and mobile phone retailer The Phone House.
