G4TV has reported that a Microsoft exec recently boasted that one day last week was the biggest day in the history of Xbox Live, with over two million players on the service simultaneously.
Xbox spokesman Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb corroborated the achievement with a celebratory tweet earlier today.
Despite the fact that a large group of Xbox Live users suddenly found themselves shut out of the service this week, the allure of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's launch likely brought more gamers than ever onto Microsoft's servers.
Between this and Activision making good on its boast of "the biggest entertainment launch of all time," Modern Warfare 2 has had quite a record-breaking week.
