The Cost Can Mount

One of the few not-so-cool things about the Coolpix 880 is its price. The camera comes standard with one 8MB CompactFlash memory card (which can hold up to 161 640-by-480 images at the camera's highest compression). It also includes lithium batteries, which last twice as long as standard alkaline batteries but are not rechargeable. By the time you dole out $40 for rechargeable lithium ion batteries, $60 for Nikon's combination AC adapter and battery recharger, and more cash for a higher-capacity CompactFlash card (a 16MB card goes for about $50), you'll be plunking down almost $1000 for your first foray into digital photography. Still, considering the 880's muscle and features, it's not a bad deal.
