Cardexpert GeForce2 MX
WHAT'S HOT: Now only $99, the Cardexpert GeForce2 MX delivers respectable performance at 1024-by-768-pixel resolution in 32-bit color. In Unreal Tournament it hit 62 frames per second, in Quake III it ran at a playable 54 fps, and in MDK2 it clocked in at 60 fps.
WHAT'S NOT: While it keeps costs down, the single data rate memory hinders this board's performance at high resolutions at 32-bit color. Like the other MX boards, the Cardexpert GeForce2 MX was unable to complete our Test Drive 6 tests at 1600-by-1200-pixel resolution in 32-bit color. In Unreal Tournament the lighting was slightly dim. The Cardexpert GeForce2 MX ships with a meager package: a driver CD-ROM, a software DVD player, and an overclocking utility that allows you to run the graphics processor faster than the manufacturer-specified speed.
WHAT ELSE: While not exactly a standout, the Cardexpert displayed fine image quality in our tests.
BEST USE: Gamers building a system on a budget, or those upgrading an older AGP-capable system, will find a solid value here.
