Targus Announces IPad Screen Protectors

Mobile accessory maker Targus will introduce its new line of screen protectors for the iPad at this week's Macworld Expo.

The screen covers will be based on the same "ClearView" technology that the company already uses for its iPod and iPhone protectors. This technology combines microscopic ridges and valleys to form an anti-glare surface that the Targus claims is also resistant to scratches and fingerprints.

The use of special glues also inhibits the formation of bubbles and prevents the accessory from peeling too easily (unless, presumably, its owner actually wants to peel it off). Like its iPod and iPhone counterparts, the iPad version of the transparent cover will be precision-cut to fit the device's screen contours exactly.

Targus' screen protectors join a handful of iPad accessories already announced by Apple during the device's January unveiling, as well as a line of fashionable sleeves to be introduced by New York-based Magnetism Studios. Somehow it seems unlikely that these will be the last add-ons that we hear of for Apple's new device.

The Targus Screen Protector will be available for purchase directly from the company's Website and its retailers starting April. Pricing information has not yet been announced.

If you're at Expo this week, Targus will give away the iPhone and iPod touch versions of its screen protector at Booth #1260 in Moscone Center. The company also plans to give away iPad-themed t-shirts at the trade show.
