Apple Offers $10K in Music for 10 Billionth iTunes Download

Time to start loading up on music: Apple has announced it will give one lucky customer a $10k iTunes gift card once it reaches

. Apple calls the event a "huge milestone for music" and "our way of saying thanks" to the boatloads of people who depend on iTunes for all of their music needs.

If you're at least 13 years old and reside in a participating country (full list on Apple's Web site), you can submit as many as 25 entries per day either by purchasing music or completing the no purchase necessary form.

Does this sound familiar? Apple pulled a similar promotion last year to celebrate the 1 billionth app download from its App Stoire. The lucky winner collected a $10,000 iTunes gift card, an iPod Touch, a Time Capsule, and a MacBook Pro (much nicer than a gift card alone).

Back in 2008, iTunes stole the crown and became the number one U.S. music retailer, proving that digital downloads were here to stay (it passed 5 billlion downloads in June 2008, for perspective). Meanwhile physical media will likely go the way of the dinosaurs sooner rather than later.
