Toshiba announced its new UX600 LED TV, a Wi-Fi-enabled HDTV that can stream content straight to its display without network cables. What makes this TV a standout in the already crowded field of LED TVs?
The first feature that caught my eye was the built-in Wi-Fi adapter; most HDTVs with Internet features rely on an ethernet connection to get online. The UX600 is a so-called connected TV: It not only lets you watch movies from your DVD player and TV from your cable box, but it also lets you enjoy videos from YouTube, music from Pandora, and slideshows from Flickr or Picasa.
Toshiba has also teamed up with VUDU to bring streaming 1080p HD movies with 5.1 surround sound to your living room on-demand via the UX600. In addition to streaming content from Internet video and photo sites, a customizable "Ticker" lets you stay current with updates from Twitter, or news, weather, and stock updates.
How does the UX600 function as a TV? Toshiba claims that the "Pixel Pure 5G engine" enhances HD and standard definition images, and "ClearFrame" 120Hz technology will ensure that your fast action videos are as clear as possible. There's even Gaming Mode, that should help reduce controller delay.
The UX600 is 2" deep and comes in 40-, 46-, and 55-inch models. It should be available this month starting at $1,400.
