Apple iPad Mania Spans the Globe
The Apple iPad international melee has begun, albeit with some disappointments. Along with the big lines at Apple stores around the world, pre-orders have been returned to courier depots, undelivered. In IT Blogwatch, bloggers blog of frustrated fanbois.
Your humble blogwatcher selected these bloggy morsels for your enjoyment. Not to mention GMH...
G'day, Neil Sands:
IPad fever flared up around the world Friday, as the Apple device went on sale in the United Kingdom, Japan ... and seven other countries. Australia was no exception.
About 400 people turned out at Apple’s central Sydney store for the launch. ... Fashion designer Davina Reichman [said] ... “People were queuing around the block — it was iPad madness.” MORE
Chris Davies knows what day it is:
It’s Friday, June 28th, and that means it’s international iPad day. Queues were already forming outside Apple stores yesterday.
Part of the rush is concern over stock levels. ... The company has promised in-store stock on a first-come, first-serve basis. MORE
Anna Leach is very British about the whole thing:
It was pretty crazy outside the Regent Street Apple store in London with people queuing all night. ... One story that got us gasping was the tale of Kendam, ... who got to the queue at 11.30pm ... and waited for eight and a half hours ... the night before one of his Finals exams.
Kendam said he was probably going to unbox in the classroom. We wish him luck with that exam. MORE
Siyahi has more Euro-deetz :
Apple has kicked off a marketing extravaganza ... as part of the launch of the iPad in the United Kingdom ... France, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and Germany. [3G] carriers [are] Vodafone Group, France Telecom SA’s Orange, Deutsche Telekom AG’s T-Mobile and Spain’s Telefonica SA.
Apple is lining up the roll out of the device in Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Luxembourg and the Netherlands by July this year. MORE
But Ewan MacLeod has bad news for Apple :
A good colleague of mine who’s a seriously big hitter in the mobile industry ... is very disappointed that Apple chose to deliver his iPad a day early. ... for the apparent 100,000 people who’ve been melting the [courier's] customer services lines, there’s clearly a problem.
Because his iPad has been scheduled for re-delivery, it now means the package is low priority. ... He could now get it on Monday. That’s an eon in iPad-fanatic time. MORE
And Matthew Newill realizes it could be even worse :
For those who came home to a card on their door may saying "sorry we missed you", we advise that you give your local depot a call and go and pick it up tonight ... or rearrange for them to try again tomorrow.
Just remember that they might not be open on Monday due to the [UK public] holiday, so it's best you call up right away and make the best plan that suits you. MORE
