Hack Brings Induction Charging to the EVO 4G

The guys at Good and Evo developed a hack that allows the HTC EVO 4G smartphone to take advantage of inductive charging.change just about any mobile device to use inductive charging. The hack uses the inductive charging coils from the cover of the Palm Touchstone Kit for Palm Pre, and inserts them into the EVO 4G.

Even though the hack is for the EVO 4G, Good and Evo says that you should be able to perform the hack--with some modifications--on any mobile device that charges at 5 volts. It requires some disassembly and soldering, so perform the hack at your own risk. Video after the jump.

Wireless charging works by using using something called electrostatic induction in which the mobile device and its docking station use an electromagnetic field to transfer energy between the two. Inductive charging works great for short-distance wireless energy transfer.

Visit Good and Evo for full step-by-step instructions and lots of photos.
