Netflix brings 'Just-for-Kids' section to the iPad

Netflix knows that kids love playing with their parents' iPads, which is why the company is making its iOS app a little more family-friendly.

The Netflix “Just-for-Kids” section is now available on the iPad. The section features handpicked kid-friendly content based on independent reviews from nonprofit Common Sense Media.

When you click on the “Just-for-Kids” tab in the Netflix app, recognizable characters from popular children’s TV shows and movies appear. Kids can make selections by picking a character. The new feature also organizes titles by genre, such as “superheroes” and “sing-alongs.”

According to a 2011 report from Common Sense Media, 52 percent of children have access to a smartphone, MP3 player, or tablet at home. Netflix in August 2011 introduced this kids section on its website, and later brought the feature to gaming consoles and Apple TV.

Now the section is going mobile for the first time. The company said it plans to roll out “Just for Kids” on Android tablets later this year. If you don't want to turn your iPad over to the kids, you might consider this kid-friendly tablet from Archos.
