When you really love something, you want everyone to know about it—some may even want to shout it from the rooftops, so to speak. A team of students at Wroclaw University of Technology must really love Nyan Cat, because they plastered a huge version of the Pop Tart cat on a building.
The students used a number of windows in a tall on-campus building to recreate the infamous Nyan Cat animation. In addition to the original Nyan Cat theme, they also managed to create renditions of the various Nyan Cat remixes that exist, including Nyan Cat Orchestrate and GAG Quartet’s Meme Medley version. The 44-minute long display also includes a number of other popular animations and themes.
The stunt is part of Project P.I.W.O, which encourages people to turn buildings into big light displays. To get Nyan Cat flying across the building, the students placed LEDs in each window, each controlled by a computer. The computer connects to the diodes via radio transmitters placed near the building, and it synchronizes the window animations to the music.
A number of other universities take part in the building display project, but this by far is the best one—it is Nyan Cat, after all. Then again, the MITris project, which turned a building into a giant game of Tetris, is still pretty impressive to watch…
You can check out the entire 44-minute light show, including characters from South Park and Johnny Bravo, on YouTube.
