The folks over at Lego Cuusoo have completed their summer review, and the results are in. The Back to the Future time machine will be their next product. Its competition included a Legend of Zelda set, a ship from EVE Online, and a Western Town.
If we Lego enthusiasts had our way, we would obviously want each and every Cuusoo project that reached the requisite amount of votes to make it to store shelves. Lego understands this, and has let the fans down easy by outlining the reasons that the other three projects were not produced.
The EVE Online ship presented an understandably difficult business proposition for Lego, as EVE does not have the kind of mass appeal that Back to the Future has, or the same outpouring of support as previous successful products, like the Minecraft set. The Legend of Zelda set was passed on because it would have required new molds for its minifigures, which is apparently pretty expensive. Finally, the Modular Western Town conflicted with a project that Lego Group is already working on.
Unfortunately, as The Verge points out, there is no pricing or availability information yet for the BTTF set, but hopefully these miniature DeLoreans will start shipping very, very soon.
