Watch tweets from around the world in real time with Tweetping

Everyone tweets. You tweet, I tweet, and there’s more than a half-billion other users that tweet. That’s a lot of 140-character messages a day. And while you probably won’t be able to read everyone’s posts in a day, you can see it all happen in real time with this incredibly hypnotic map.

This is Tweetping. It’s a website that tracks Twitter activity in real time, and places all of it on a world map. French developer Franck Ernewein created Tweetping to show just how active everyone across the planet.

When you first fire up the Web app, it starts with a few blips that show the actual tweet, along geographical location. It also keeps a count of every tweet, hashtag, mention, and all the words everyone has written.

After a while, though, the tweets pile up with glowing dots that make the world brighter than a starry sky. Its fascinating to watch the endless barrage on twitter as well as the distribution that completely covers up the UK, while Australia has four visible nodes of major activity.
