AT&T announces $200 HTC One pre-orders to begin this week
It’s a big month for HTC. As the phone manufacturer gets set to unveil their rumored Facebook Phone (or at least unveil their role as the initial handset for a mobile Facebook OS), they are also readying the launch of the newest incarnation of their flagship aluminum-cased super phone, the HTC One.
AT&T recently announced they will offer the new 4.7-inch HTC One beginning on April 19 starting at $200, with pre-orders beginning this week. The HTC One on AT&T will come available in 32 and 64 GB models (the beefier version will be available for $300). While all the other major carriers have promised to support the phone, a report from The Pentagon Post states that AT&T may have the exclusive rights to the 64 GB version.
The standard One will be $50 cheaper than the rival plus-sized Samsung Galaxy S4 (available for pre-order on AT&T starting April 16), and the same price as the basic iPhone 5, which is available now.
As a special offer, HTC will also bribe early adaptors to buy their phone. Users who sign-up to purchase the One before April 4 regardless of carrier will be eligible to receive a $100 pre-paid visa card or the trade-in value of their old phone (whichever is greater).
After facing delays on the One, no one is more hopefull for the phone’s success than HTC’s CEO, Peter Chou reportedly told a group of executives that he would step down if the phone was not a blockbuster.
