Hyperlapse turns Google Street View into beautiful time-lapse motion videos

Spring is officially here, which means it’s time to start planning your summer road trips. And for me, that means spending a lot of time in Google Street View. If you’re doing the same thing and clicking a thousand times over through virtual streets, we have a better virtual tour solution for you.

The Hyperlapse Web app will let you create moving time-lapses of any virtual road found in Google Street View. Just set two markers—say, from New York to Maine—and you’ll be able see the whole trip up the old Route 1 as one seamless video.

The Toronto-based digital studio Teehan+Lax created the experimental app. To fully show off the capabilities of its Web tool, the studio created this globetrotting time-lapse video (above) entirely out of Google Street View images.

Maybe being one the Google Street View guys driving around the world isn’t entirely so bad after all.
