Case Designs Show New Square iPod Nano Without ClickWheel

Apple is expected to announce a new line-up of iPods at a media-centric event scheduled for September 1. Along with an expected new beefed-up iPod Touch, many say a redesigned iPod Nano is also slated to be introduced. That is, if advance Chinese case designs are to be believed.

Case Designs Show New Square iPod Nano Without ClickWheelClick to ZoomThe iLounge blog spotted two different case designs from Chinese case vendor X-Doria, claimed to be designed for a fourth-generation iPod Touch, and a sixth-generation iPod Nano.

As previously speculated, the new iPod Touch is expected to borrow design cues from the iPhone 4, as well as gain two cameras, one on the back with a flash, and a front-facing one to be used with FaceTime. The cases (pictured) reflect these changes.

The uncovered cases also show another square iPod, which is believed to be the sixth-generation iPod nano, according to iLounge and AppleInsider. The new square iPod Nano would lose the click-wheel, and feature a touchscreen instead.

The square case is consistent with the 1.7-inch diagonal Apple-branded touchscreen that surfaced in July. The case also has a whole at the back, meaning that Apple would incorporate a camera in the new iPod Nano as well.

Apple usually sends new iPod size specifications in advance to case makers, so that cases arrive on the market soon after the device is released. Apple avoided doing this with the iPhone 4, and when the company had to give away cases after Antennagate, there weren't enough third-party cases to go around because of manufacturing delays.
