Anyone can manage their bank account online these days, and some people are lucky enough to have apps designed by their banks to manage their accounts from a phone. For the rest of us, Funky Expenses can be the next best option. This personal checkbook app is a simple way to keep track of expenses.
Funky Expenses lets you set up any number of accounts, which is handy for anyone who is trying to balance multiple bank accounts. You can then add credits or debits. In every entry you specify the payee, the amount of the expense or credit, and the category. Keeping track of the payee allows you to determine totals in case you need to know how much of your money is going to a particular person or business. And you might set up categories to identify your rent, bills, credit card payments, grocery expenses, miscellaneous purchases, and so on.
If you make a mistake in an entry, correcting or deleting it is easy enough. Funky Expenses doesn't do anything complicated. If, for instance, you want to compare and contrast expenses among multiple accounts or to create entries with figures that readjust for interest rates, you're out of luck. The app does, however, have a menu option to export the data from Funky Expenses as a CSV file, so if you need to look at something more complex or you prefer to create graphs to illustrate the data, you can do that within a spreadsheet or database program.
Funky Expenses is compatible with some other Android apps; Bistro Math, for example, can export a restaurant bill to Funky Expenses. Unfortunately, I could not find any information about which apps it is compatible with on the creator's Website (which, despite what the 'about' section says, is not www.funkyexpenses.com but blog.funkyandroid.com). The lack of compatibility info is a shame, but it doesn't really detract from this useful app.
