As the nation wakes from its continent-wide candy coma, we find a November morning that is slightly different than the October evening we left behind. For today, the new iPad Air is available.
The 9.7-inch iPad Air is a powerful, if slimmer version of the full-size iPad (the Retina version of mini that was introduced alongside the iPad Air will be available later in November).
While the hype surrounding the new iPad may not quite match-up with that surrounding the most recent iPhones, the Apple Stores will surely be bustling when they open at 8 a.m. local time. And of course, the new iPad has already been on sale via Apple's site since midnight.
The iPad Air starts at $499 for the Wi-Fi-only version with 16GB and runs up to $929 for the Wi-Fi + cellular flavor with 128GB of storage. Of course, the new incarnation also means that there are better deals on older models such as the full-size (and all-around quality tablet) iPad 2 is available starting at $399 for the 16GB Wi-Fi-only version and $529 for the Wi-Fi + 3G version.
Price-concious shoppers will also be able to find a number of deals in Apple's refurbished / clearance site, where a brief search pointed to a fourth-generation Wi-Fi iPad (the beefy one released last year) with 16GB storage for only $379.
And for what it’s worth, there’re only 53 shopping days until Christmas.
Correction: An earlier version of the story said that both the iPad Air and Retina mini had gone on sale today. This is not the case: Only the iPad Air goes on sale today, the Retina mini will be available later this month.
