Samsung Gets To Work On 8GB Laptop Memory Sticks

Eight gigabytes of memory in a laptop? On a single stick? Yeas please! Samsung is ramping up mass-production of a new 8GB DDR3 RM stick.

Samsung developed the new memory modules using a 40-nanometer fabrication process, and claims that the new RAM uses about half as much power as two 4GB DDR3 modules and a third as much power as a 1.8V DDR2 module.

Samsung has not yet confirmed pricing or availability for its 8GB module, but it did say that the new memory would be available as an optional add-on for Dell's Precision M6500 laptop (or as Dell calls it, "mobile workstation), so our guess is that general availability can't be too far away.
