Lexmark Changes Game With Genesis Inkjet Multifunction

Lexmark today announced Genesis, an inkjet multifunction printer (print/copy/scan/fax) that offers some truly innovative features.

The shiny, black Genesis looks more like a display than a printer, with its vertical glass face--the scanner cover--and its integrated, 4.3-inch touchscreen color LCD and backlit touch controls. The scanner is actually a 10-megapixel digital camera that can create an image much more quickly than any traditional scanning mechanism. The LCD provides a flexible interface for common multifunction features as well as Lexmark SmartSolutions, a growing family of one-touch, programmable task automations and cloud-based apps. Lexmark is adding the ability to search and view your Twitter feed, and in about a month you'll also be able to view and print from your Facebook wall. Little would you know that beneath the MFP's handsome surface lies a color inkjet printer with a 100-sheet rear vertical input and 50-sheet front output.

While the number of Web-savvy printers is growing rapidly, Lexmark's Genesis moves ahead of the curve with features as unique as its looks. Genesis should be available by December for $399. Check back for our review.
