Hacked Apple TV Gets Plex App

It was only a matter of time before tinkerers had their way with the hackable Apple TV, with one hacker making a custom weather app. Now, someone else has come along and added Mac media center Plex to the set-top box.

Plex Forum member Quiqueck said in a post that he had been fiddling with the app and a jailbroken Apple TV 2 for a while, and although he had some success, the Plex app isn't without its limitations. First, you can only use Plex for video playback only--no music, app management or images. Second, the hack is still a little buggy. Large sections of Plex time out during loading time and the “Local Servers” screen only updates by pressing up or down on your remote.

However Quiqueck appears to still be working on the app hack, and is asking people who use his hack to report back if they encounter any new problems.Hopefully then he will be able to get Plex for Apple TV working to its full potential in the near future.. If not, someone could always try adding a hack of the VLC player app.
