Though not the "superphone" that Google intended, the Google Nexus One by HTC is still quite impressive. The speedy Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz processor makes this Android phone a top performer. It also has a stunning 3.7-inch AMOLED display that showcases its connected features, especially Android OS 2.1's five home screens for widget and shortcut personalization, as well as the improved photo gallery.

The multimedia-heavy Samsung Vibrant stands out for its preloaded applications (Amazon Kindle, Layar, MobiTV, The Sims 3, and Slacker), as well as the Samsung Media Hub app for music and video. Using Samsung's new Super AMOLED technology, the 4-inch display is one of the thinnest touchscreens on the market, and it produces rich colors (albeit with some glare) in direct sunlight. It also lacks support for HSPA+, T-Mobile's 4G-network equivalent. But preloaded apps such as Netflix, Slacker Radio, and Xbox Live make this phone a stellar entertainment device.

Running Android 2.2 (Froyo), the HTC G2 features a smart design with a pop-out physical QWERTY keyboard as well as on-screen typing options on its 3.7-inch touchscreen display. This no-frills smartphone supports T-Mobile's faster HSPA+ 3.5G network, which promises good connection speeds; the handset's 800MHz Snapdragon processor, meanwhile, offers snappy general performance. The G2 also comes preloaded with a gaggle of Google apps, namely Google Earth, Google Goggles, Google Maps with Places and Navigation, and Google Voice.
