Samsung hints at Galaxy K Zoom debut on April 29

Samsung just released the Galaxy S5 and the company is already gearing up for another mobile announcement. Early Monday morning, Samsung announced a special event to take place at the end of April in Singapore.

"Kapture the moment. April 29. Mark you calendars!" the company said via the Samsung Mobile Twitter account. The tweet was accompanied by a teaser image featuring a large "K."

The message would be somewhat mysterious if we hadn't been seeing rumors about a follow-up to the Galaxy S4 Zoom for several weeks. The Galaxy K Zoom, earlier dubbed the Galaxy S5 Zoom, is expected to be the device on tap for Tuesday, April 29.

The latest iteration of Samsung's smartphone-camera hybrid, the K Zoom is expected to be a slimmed-down version of the S4 Zoom released last summer.

The Galaxy K Zoom is rumored to have a 4.8-inch display, 1.6GHz quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, and Android 4.4.2, KitKat, according to a report from Phone Arena.

The main feature of the Galaxy Zoom line, however, is its camera. The Galaxy K is said to have a 20-megapixel sensor, 10x optical zoom, and Xenon flash—an upgrade from the S4 Zoom's 16MP shooter.

Leaked pics of the Galaxy K Zoom have shown a handset similar to the S4 Zoom with a regular smartphone touchscreen on the front, and a point-and-shoot camera on the back.

An April event for the K Zoom is a little earlier than Samsung's S4 Zoom send-off in 2013. Last year, the company announced its cameraphone in June and later debuted on AT&T's network in November.

Similar to other mobile announcements, the expected K Zoom debut will likely feature discussions about the device without mentioning a U.S. launch date or pricing.

Nevertheless, a good bet would be a Q4 release and a $200 price tag with a new, two-year contract.
