CES 2011: Lenovo Announces Revamped IdeaPad Laptops and Netbooks

Hot on the heels of its ThinkPad announcement, Lenovo unveiled a new lineup of IdeaPad laptops on Monday at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, with machines designed for entertainment, multimedia, ultra portability, security, and affordability.

New models will be released for Lenovo IdeaPad's Y Series, Z series, S Series, V series, and Lenovo G and B series, and boast new technologies such as 3D capability, RapidBoot for a speedy start-up time, and fingerprint readers for bio-authentication.

IdeaPad Y Series: High Performance Mobile Entertainment

The entire new Y Series--including the IdeaPad Y570d, Y570, and Y470-sport 2nd Generation Intel Core processors (up to Core i7) and feature the new Lenovo Enhanced Experience 2.0 for Windows 7 standard, which Lenovo claims enables these laptops to boot an average 20 seconds faster than other Windows 7 computers. They also come equipped with Nvidia GT 550M switchable graphics, OneKey Theatre II for advanced audio-visual settings, and SRS Premium Sound with JBL-designed speakers.

Lenovo claims the Y470 and Y570 can boot in less than 10 seconds with optional Lenovo RapidDrive SSD technology, which uses a combination of SSD and HDD storage to allow a fast boot and affordable storage capacity.

The Y570d stands out for its Nvidia 3D capabilities allowing users can view 3D photos, movies and games with the included glasses (and compatible 3D programs).

The latest IdeaPad Y Series laptops will be available beginning in May 2011 starting at $899.99.

IdeaPad Z Series: Fashionable Multimedia Laptops

The revamped Z series keeps style the priority--the new Z470 and Z370 have a futuristic ID design with a semi-transparent cover in colors like fuchsia, sky blue, and dark brown, while the Z570 has a metallic effect panel in lieu of bright colors.

Specs for the Z series include the new 2nd generation Intel Core i7 processors and Lenovo Enhanced Experience for quick reboots. The Z series has an 16:9 format widescreen paired with an optional Blu-ray Disc drive and Dolby Advanced Audio (the Z370 sports a 13.3-inch screen, Z470 has a 14-inch screen, and the Z570 has a 15.6-inch screen).

Availability and pricing on the latest Z series IdeaPads is not yet known.

IdeaPad S Series: Internet Companion

The ultraportable S series has two new additions--the 11.6-inch S205 and the 10.1-inch S100. Both sport Lenovo's AccuType chiclet keyboard designed to make typing comfortable on smaller notebooks.

The S205 has optional integrated 3G connectivity and DirectShare to allow users to sync their files without connecting to the Internet. It uses AMD's new dual-core E-350 processor (previously code-named Zacate) and comes with Windows 7 Home Premium.

An upgrade to the Lenovo S10-3 netbook, the 2.2-pound S100 has a slim backlit LED display and will be available in red, fuchsia, sky blue, and black. It uses Intel's dual-core Atom N570 CPU and comes with Windows 7 Home Basic.

The latest IdeaPad S Series netbooks will be available beginning in March 2011 starting at $329.99.

IdeaPad V Series: Office and Security Machines

Designed for the business-minded consumer, the newest Lenovo V Series models (V370, V470, and V570) feature a sleek aluminum casing and a thin 21mm design. Like other new IdeaPads, the V series pack 2nd generation Intel Core processors and Lenovo Enhanced Experience 2.0 for Windows 7 with RapidBoot.

Keeping security a priority, the V Series comes with a Fingerprint Reader for bio-authentication and a USB Port Locker to prevent unauthorized access to USB ports. Also standard are the OneKey Rescue System for data backup and Security Suite to encrypt and protect your data.

The new Lenovo V series laptops will be available beginning in April 2011 starting at $599.99.

Lenovo G Series: Mainstream Affordable Notebooks

Lenovo expanded its budget-conscious G series to include new 17, 15, and 14-inch options. The G 770, G570, G470, G575, and G475 feature Lenovo Enhanced Experience 2.0 for Windows 7 with RapidBoot, energy management for prolonged battery life, and OneKey Rescue System to backup and recover data. Some of these systems will utilize 2nd Generation Intel Core i7 processors, others will use AMD's new Fusion E or C-series processors.

Availability and pricing on the latest Lenovo G Series models is not yet known.

Lenovo B Series: Affordable Home PCs for Work and Play

For laptops designed to handle general home use or for small office/home office tasks, Lenovo unleashed the new B570 and B470. They feature up to 2nd generation Intel Core i5 processors, Windows 7 Professional, and Lenovo Enhanced Experience with RapidBoot. These models also include multimedia and security features, with details still to come.

The new Lenovo B Series laptops will be available beginning in April 2011 starting at $499.99.
