A well-known leaker of information on unreleased smartphones and tablets has revealed key details on the HTC One M8 Prime, supposedly an even fancier version of HTC's flagship phone.
According to prolific (and highly accurate) mobile leaker Evleaks, the HTC M8 Prime will have a waterproof design with an “exotic material” made from aluminum and liquid silicon. This material is reportedly a just little heavier than aluminum, but stronger, and with a similar ability to stay cool.
Evleaks also revealed some possible tech specs for the device. The One M8 will reportedly be the first HTC phone with a Category 6 LTE Advanced radio, a 2.5 GHz Snapdragon 805 processor and 3 GB of RAM. The display could measure 5.5-inches, with a resolution of 2560-by-1440.
Almost as interesting as the details themselves is the way Evleaks went about disclosing them. On Sunday night, HTC spokesman Jeff Gordon fired a shot at Evleaks over Twitter, saying that “a well-known leaker has been completely wrong about at least two of his 'leaks.'” over the past few days. “Be careful where you get your news,” Gordon concluded.
Evleaks, who's been poked fun of by HTC employees before, then posted the M8 details as a series of responses to Gordon.
The details from Evleaks aren't entirely new. Previous reports from China have mentioned many of the same specs—but not the details on build materials—and hinted at a September launch. Still, it's always enjoyable when new product rumors come with a side of drama.
