Computacenter Launches Cloud Email Service

IT services company Computacenter is set to introduce a cloud-based email service as the company revealed details of a new survey confirming that security was still the main inhibitor when it came to cloud adoption.

He said that according to the recent Computacenter survey, 91 percent of companies see a place for cloud with their organisation, "they wanted the service to be seamless - service is the key to starting on this journey."

C3Mail, which is based on Microsoft's Exchange, will offer 99.9 percernt availability according to Computacenter. The product provides management of the email service, including ownership of the infrastructure, security, migration, and user administration.

According to the survey, IT decision makers agreed that email would be an ideal application for organisations to turn to when they wanted to take their first steps into the cloud. Fifty-five percent of the respondents agreed that their companies were most likely to see strong benefits from cloud email over other cloud technologies, with 61 percent of respondents expecting to see their organisations using email in a private cloud within three years.

Lovell said that some organisations would adopt C3mail throughout their organisation, some would use it within certain ways. "There will be some people for whom it would be appropriate and some who would not a highly-customisable mail service - this won't be for them. The important thing is to take a blended approach."

He added that C3mail was the first part of an array of Computacenter cloud offerings: "We will be launching C3 Collaboration next, C3 Client and C3 Datacentre to follow later in the year."
