Apple's iPad 2 is already in production -- according to The Wall Street Journal. The report claims the iPad 2 will be thinner and lighter than the original, and will come with a faster processor, more memory and a more powerful graphics processor.
The article quoted "people familiar with the matter" and also said the second-generation iPad will have a front-facing camera in order to utilize Apple's Facetime feature. It also claims that the resolution of the iPad 2's display will be similar to the first iPad, ruling out the inclusion of Apple's Retina display used on the iPhone 4.
Other rumors about the next-generation iPad have included:
-- A carbon fibre case, to reduce weight and increase mobility (Possible)-- Dual cameras; a front-facing camera for Facetime video calls, and a rear-mounted camera for taking photos and recording high-definition video clips (Highly likely)-- Three-axis gyroscope, the same one used on the iPhone 4 (Possible)-- A USB port (Highly unlikely)-- An SD card slot (Possible)-- A Retina display; the same used on the iPhone 4 (Unlikely)-- Thinner case design than the current iPad (Highly likely)-- A smaller 7in version (Highly unlikely)-- No home button; use of multi-touch gestures instead (Unlikely)-- iPad 3 to follow iPad 2 in September (Highly unlikely)
