Cloud-based security makes it possible to protect an entire company's computers remotely. Better yet, it's incredibly quick and easy with Worry-Free Business Services. The reward is continuous, dynamic protection against viruses, malware, and other threats to your business.
Worry-Free Business Security Services is a hosted solution. That means you don't need to install any management software on your own servers, which are treated just like any other machine that needs protection. Trend Micro handles maintenance and upgrades for you, and you can manage security settings and features from a Web browser. Everything you need is online.
To get started, either sign up for a free trial or subscribe to the service at www.trendmicro.com. As part of the sign-up process, you'll be prompted to enter a Logon ID and password. You'll use this ID and password to access the management console and begin protecting your network.
First, though, you'll need to install a lightweight software agent on each computer or Windows server you want to protect. There are three options, and the size and complexity of your network will determine which method -- or combination of methods -- is most appropriate.
Before we start, a quick note: It is recommended that you uninstall any anti-virus software before beginning a new Worry-Free Business Services installation. Worry-Free will attempt to uninstall existing solutions during setup, but not all products are supported. For best results, remove them manually ahead of time.
The simplest method is to email a Web link to users. When they click, the agent will be installed automatically. This method is appropriate for protecting smaller organizations and is especially handy for telecommuters.
- Open the Worry-Free Business Security Services console, and click Computers at the top. You'll see the default groups of Servers and Desktops listed (see figure).
- To access the agent installation files, click the Add button and select Add Computers. The screen will display the web link to download the agent.
- To distribute this link, the console provides an option to Send Through My Default Email. This will launch your email application with a sample message containing the link and instructions.
Note: Each user will receive a personalized link to download the Worry Free Security agent. The installation file can't be copied to other PCs. Each user must download and install the version meant for them.
For a supervised installation, you can download and install the agent manually from a server on your local area network. This method is appropriate for protecting servers as well as employees.
- Click the + symbol next to Additional Installation Options and click the download URL that appears. This will open a new page offering a Download button.
- Click the Download button, then click Run. This will download a small application that starts the installation process.
- Click Run again when prompted, and you will see a dialog box asking where to save the Agent Installation Package.
- Browse to the folder you want to save the package to, and click Next. The package will download.
- Follow the on-screen installation instructions.
The installation package is an MSI file called WFBS-SVC_Agent_Installer.msi. This version of the installer can be copied to other computers. You can copy this file to a central file share on your network, navigate to the share from each PC, and install the agent by double-clicking on the file.
The client installation itself is straightforward and requires only a few clicks to complete. After the client is installed, it will prompt a reboot. This reboot is required to finish the installation.
For large networks, you can automate the installation using a script that runs when a user logs in. This is an advanced procedure, and it's beyond the scope of this presentation to describe it in detail. Click the link labeled Get Help for startup script installation under Additional Installation Options in the Add Computer screen for instructions.
To verify that the agent has installed successfully on an individual PC or server, check for a new entry in the Programs menu called Trend Micro Client-Server Security Agent and a new icon in the taskbar tray with a green circle. Alternatively, you can verify installation across your network from the administrator's console. Once the agent is registered with the Worry Free service, you'll see a corresponding entry in the Computers listing on the console, under either the Desktops or Servers groups.
Now you're ready to start protecting your network. You can create new groups by clicking the Add button, then Add Group and giving the new group a name. For example, you might choose to track "Laptops" separately from "Desktops." To assign computers to groups, simply click and drag the computer name to the appropriate group.
Securing a fleet of PCs has never been easier. The cloud lets you do it remotely. With Worry-Free Business Security Services, you can add all the computers in your business quickly and be protected instantly.
The Computers tab on the Worry-Free Business Security Services console shows your computers, organized into groups.
