Gateway 2000 E-3110 300

Gateway 2000's E-3110 300 roars into Best Buy territory thanks to a deep $504 price cut. At $2989, the price of this business PC is now low enough to bring it out of the shadow of the similarly configured E-3110 266. Outstanding performance, excellent support policies, and welcome networking features make the E-3110 300 attractive to anyone needing a full-featured office PC.

This stylish midtower comes standard with 64MB of RAM and a large 8.4GB hard disk. The E-3110 300 also includes a 3Com 100-megabits-per-second ethernet card and Intel LANDesk Manager software for remotely servicing networked PCs; however, the system lacks a modem. The sharp 19-inch monitor is terrific for high-resolution work and includes convenient on-screen controls. This month, Gateway upgraded the graphics system with an AGP board that uses the Permedia II chip and 8MB of SGRAM.

The documentation is well written, but the motherboard manual that came with our test machine was for a different model. Gateway 2000's three-year warranty covers parts and labor and includes free on-site service. Phone support is available around the clock, and a variety of online support is available as well.
