Kodak DVC 300 / Kodak DVC 323
Kodak's $99 DVC 300 and its follow-up, the $169 DVC 323 (still in beta at the time of our testing), impressed us with good video quality and high frame rates. The DVC 323 dished up the most stable video in this review. Unfortunately, these products gave us considerable trouble in our unplug-and-replug test.
After we plugged in the camera and inserted the CD-ROM, the DVC-300 displayed real-time output on screen using the bundled PictureWorks Live application. But video quality fell short of the Intel Create & Share's, and the software lost contact with the device when we unplugged and reconnected the camera into the same port. Plugging the camera into the PC's other USB port froze the system.
The DVC 323 beta fared a bit better. We had to install the bundled software before plugging in the hardware, but the 323 produced the best video output of the group. However, it balked when we unplugged and replugged the connectors, and unplugging the camera while running PictureWorks Live locked up our PC.
