Excellence In App Design

In the second day of the 2011 Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple unveiled the winners of this year's Design Award, which recognizes great app design in the iOS and Mac app stores. While the winners get a MacBook Air, iPad 2, iPod touch, and a funky trophy, you get to dig out some well-thought and designed apps.

Grades 2 (Student Category)

Grades 2 by Tapity is an app designed to help students achieve their target GPA and get better results in classes. The app also tells you what grades you need on upcoming assignments to get your target grade.

Pennant (Student Category)

Pennant from Vargatron showcases the history of baseball with snazzy interactive infographics, with data from 115,000 games that have taken place from 1952 to 2010.

Pulse News Reader (Student Category)

Pulse News Reader by Alphonso Labs is already a favorite social aggregation magazine, with a sliding grid layout for iPads and iPhones.

Cut The Rope (iPhone Category)

Cut The Rope from Chillingo topped the iPhone games category, with original graphics its fun gameplay, and it's almost as addictive as Angry Birds.

Golfscape GPS Rangefinder (iPhone Category)

Golfscape GPS Rangefinder by Shotzoom Software is a rangefinder for golfers that uses your phone's camera (augmented reality) to view distances on more than 35,000 golf courses.

Infinity Blade (iPhone Category)

Infinity Blade from Chair Entertainment Group is a well-awarded game already, and features action-packed gameplay and several play modes.

Osmos (iPad Category)

Osmos by Hemisphere Games is a game based on the idea that you control a floating planet, and you have to eat other smaller orbs by touching them, with various difficulty levels.

Our Choice (iPad Category)

Our Choice from Push Pop Press is the Al Gore-featuring app that surveys the causes of global warming though interactive graphics, videos and text.

Djay (iPad Category)

Djay by Algoriddim allows you to turn into a turntable artist using the iPad's multitouch surface, with features even your average traditional decks don't have.

Capo (Mac Category)

Capo from SuperMegaUltraGroovy is a tool that helps you learn the music in your iTunes library by slowing your music, and presenting a detailed spectrogram of it.

Pixelmator (Mac Category)

Pixelmator is a fast and powerful image editor with dozens of available effects and correction tools for your photos.

Anomaly: Warzone Earth (Mac Category)

Anomaly: Warzone Earth by 11 bit studios is a real-time strategy game with excellent graphics, working in a reverse tower defense order, with the scope to escort a convoy through an enemy-infested area.
