Live in the past--in style, baby! That must be what this guy was thinking when he came up with the Victorian/Steampunk Laptop. And you can now pre-order one for yourself--provided you can spare $5500.
Richard Nagy, built his original steakpunk laptop five years ago out of an HP ZT1000 notebook, inferior tools, and little money. Datamancer says that his newest laptop "will be loosely based upon the general theme of the original, but with much finer fit and finish and with emphasis on usability," and that the new (old?) laptop will feature cutting-edge interal components (as you'd expect for a $5500 computer!).
Steampunk, an art form and sub-genre of science fiction, allows artists and creators to imagine and live an alternate history where old forms of power like steam are still used in conjunction with advanced and future technologies (Like a laptop). The films Mutant Chronicles (2009) and Sherlock Holmes (2010) are steampunk-style films. Steampunk often incorporates material from the Victorian era wrapped around modern or futuristic technology--in this case, a laptop.
Unfortunately, there's no specific information available about the internal components right now. For the time being, you can pre-order one of these old looking computers for $5500 (Preordering might be your best bet--if you wait you can expect to pay more than $7500!). Just remember, it may be expensive but you can stick it next to your 'modernist' casemod, and that might just be worth it.
