Link Alert
At a Glance
Link Alert is a Firefox extension; it installs directly into your Firefox browser. Once it's installed, you see it only when something's unusual about a link. If you mouse over a typical Web page link, nothing happens. But if you mouse over a link that goes to any of the 12 supported file categories (including Adobe PDF, Javascript, Microsoft Word, and .zip files), Link Alert shows an icon that tells you what type of file you'll find. The icons are very clear: a musical note for music files, a filmstrip for video, a gear for applications, and so forth.
Informed with Link Alert's information, you save yourself unnecessary clicks. You can also save bandwidth and hard drive space for the things you really need. Best of all, you can save yourself some headaches by cutting off one paths that malware can take into your PC.
Note: This link takes you to Mozilla.org, where you can automatically install the file into your browser.
