WinASO Registry Optimizer is a registry cleaner and system speed-up utility that found more than 1,700 errors, dead-ends, and spiderwebs in my Windows registry. It identified fewer than two dozen of these as potentially risky, but that was still good to know. If you prefer to break things down further, you have the option of scanning individual sections of the registry, choosing from a list of 22 areas, which range from "Add/Remove Programs" to "Shared DLLs" to "Program Shortcuts (C:/)."

The program claims to speed up your system by adjusting your Registry parameters and streamlining Windows operations. It's possible my system ran faster, but I wasn't timing processes and didn't notice a difference. There's also a Privacy Eraser that eliminates traces of your computer sessions from the Registry and elsewhere. The trial version will repair only ten registry errors. You'll have to pay for a license ($30 for a single user) to repair more than that. This version adds support for Windows Vista.
