RapidTyping Typing Tutor is a colorful little program which
promises to teach the basics of typing through a series of
exercises. The interface, while bright, is extremely sparse, and a
read of the help file (accessed through the small '?' icon on the
top of the screen) is required. Further, an important feature--the
keyboard--is not visible by default, but must be brought down via
clicking the tab on the bottom of the main screen. An animated
aquarium backdrop adds color and life, and grows more active as the
user progresses in the lesson. The basic keyboard and window frame
can be skinned, and a small selection of skins are available at
http://www.rapidtyping.com/skins.html.
The greatest weakness of the program is a lack of a guide to proper
finger placement; without it, a novice user would probably gain
little from this software.
